Born in Kyushu, Japan and raised in Los Angeles, CA. since the age of three, I developed my early "acting skills" in the backyard of my old apartment building in East L.A. My friends and I would re-enact scenes from major motion pictures using whatever we had as props in the backyard. I loved going to the movie theatre and escaping into another time or world. My first "big break" came at a young age when a casting director came into my mother's coffee shop and needed to find Asian-American actors to fill in as background for a club scene in the feature film "Black Rain" starring Michael Douglas and directed by Ridley Scott. My mother told the casting director about my aspirations of being an actor and I was told to come down to Paramount Pictures to work on this film. I remember being amazed with the size of the sound stage and seeing Michael Douglas in person. On my second day on the set, a First Assistant Director came over and asked me if I knew how to speak Japanese. Not knowing why, I said "Yes." I was asked to come with him and repeat a line to Ridley Scott. I said the line in Japanese and he approved me to play a newspaper reporter. They wisked me off to the costume dept. and fitted me in a suit and gave me a prop camera. They told me to sign a contract and my name would appear in the film and I'd receive a check in the mail. Wow! From the backyard of my apartment building to a sound stage at Paramount Pictures...I caught the "bug". From then on, I made it my career choice to be an actor. I read, observed, and studied anything and everything I could that had to do with the craft and business of acting. I took acting classes in college, workshops at East West Players, studied at the Beverly Hills Playhouse and am currently studying with my mentor and acting coach Sal Romeo at the Friends and Artist Studio. Through numerous auditions, casting director workshops/showcases, networking functions, talent agents and many personal relationships, I have been able to build up a body of work throughout the years that I am very proud of. Although this career journey has had it's many sacrifices and self-doubts throughout the years, it's a journey into perseverance that I've enjoyed and will continue to follow throughout my lifetime... |
